Longlin Autonomous County is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi, at the junction of Dian, Qian and Gui provinces (regions), with 179 administrative villages (communities) in 16 townships (towns) under the jurisdiction of the county, covering a total area of 3,518 square kilometres, and five nationalities including Miao, Yi, Gelao, Zhuang and Han, with a total population of 439,000 people in the county, of which the minority populations accounted for 81.2%, making it one of the two autonomous counties for ethnic minorities in the country. It is one of the only two autonomous counties of ethnic minorities in China, and the only autonomous county of ethnic minorities in Baise.
Longlin has a long history and culture. In the first year of Song Baoyou (1253), Longlin was under the jurisdiction of Anlongdong of Sicheng Prefecture, and in the first month of the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Xilong Prefecture was changed to Xilong County; the People's Government of Xilong County was proclaimed on 18th March, 1950; in August, 1951, Xilincheng Prefecture withdrew from its establishment and was merged into Xilong Prefecture, which was renamed as Longlin Autonomous County; and in the first day of January, 1953, the People's Government of the Joint Autonomous Region of the ethnic groups of Longlin was established (county level), and began the implementation of the Longlin Autonomous County. (county level) was established, and regional ethnic autonomy began to be implemented.

Longlin has obvious location advantages. It is connected with Tianlin County in the east, Xilin County in the south, and Anlong County and Ceheng County in Guizhou Province in the north; G78 Expressway and 324 National Highway run through its territory, and it is the sub-centre city of West Gui. Longlin is rich in natural resources. There are 118 large and small rivers in the county, in the Nanpanjiang River, has built a national key project Tianshengqiao one, two hydroelectric power stations as well as the autonomous region's key project Pingban hydroelectric power station, and the natural drop of 484 metres of the Lengshui River has built seven step power stations. Lunglin is the country's ‘west to east’ an important energy base, Lunglin mineral resources are relatively rich, rich in gold, coal, manganese, crystal ore, limestone, silica and pyroxene and other mineral deposits, is a small well-known non-ferrous mineral deposits of Guangxi township.
Longlin is rich in ethnic customs. Autonomous county territory of human landscape and ethnic customs colourful, known as the UNESCO ‘living museum of ethnic minorities’. Mawo, Dashu foot, Zhangjiazhai, Longdong Dazhai and other ethnic tourist attractions have been developed, Xuelian Cave was selected as ‘Baise eighteen scenic spots’. Miao's ‘Jumping Slope Festival’, Yi's ‘Torch Festival’, Gelao's ‘Eating New Festival’, Zhuang's ‘March 3’ Song Festival, Han's ‘Song Festival’, and so on. The ethnic festivals and cultural activities, such as the ‘Song Festival’ of the Zhuang and the ‘Lantern Opera’ of the Han, are famous both inside and outside the region. In recent years, the People's Government of the autonomous county has fixed funds every year to support ethnic folk associations to organise ethnic festivals and to pass on and carry forward ethnic folk culture. Eleven festivals, including the Slope Jumping Festival of the Miao, the Cuckoo Sacrifice of the Yi, the Tree Worshipping Festival of the Gelao, and the Song Festival of the Zhuang, have been included in the list of intangible cultural heritages to be protected at the level of the Autonomous Region.
