【Overview】Pingba District, Anshun City, is strategically located in the central part of Guizhou Province in southwest China, at 106.25 degrees east longitude and 26.42 degrees north latitude. The district administers 7 towns, 2 townships, and 2 sub-districts. As of 2024, the permanent population was 340,600 (including Gaofeng Town and Machang Town), with a total area of 987 square kilometres (including Gaofeng Town and Machang Town). It is 48 kilometres from the provincial capital Guiyang and 38 kilometres from Anshun City. It borders Qingzhen City, Gui'an New Area, Changshun County of Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Zhenjin County of Bijie City, Xiu District of Anshun City, and Puding County. It is a city within the urban economic circle centred on Guiyang and Gui'an, supported by the Xiuwen-Wudang-Guiding-Longli-Huishui-Changshun-Pingba-Qingzhen-Xiuwen Expressway ring line. It has convenient transportation and is known as the ‘Central Guizhou Corridor.’ Within its borders, three urban arterial roads—Gui'an Avenue, Guan'an Road, and Beidouhu Road (each 60 metres wide)—and the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway and Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway crisscross the area. The Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway and the Zhuzhou-Liuyang Double-Track Railway also traverse the entire region. In January 2014, the State Council officially approved the establishment of the Gui'an New Area. Pingba is located in the core area of the Gui'an New Area, with its entire territory included in the overall planning of the Gui'an New Area, accounting for 51% of the total planned area of 1,795 square kilometres. Among these, Gaofeng and Machang are included in the directly administered zone of the Gui'an New Area, accounting for 65% of the directly administered zone's area.

【Geology and Topography】Pingba is located in the middle section of the terraced eastern slope of the Yungui Plateau, the western segment of the Miao Ling Mountains, between the southeast bank of the Sancha River (upper reaches of the Wujiang River) and Hongfeng Lake; it is situated in the central part of the Qianzhong Mountainous Region, with a higher elevation in the northwest and flatter terrain in the southeast and central areas. The highest elevation is 1,645.6 metres, the lowest is 963 metres, and the urban centre has an elevation of 1,250 metres. Carbonate rock layers are widely distributed within the region, with well-developed karst landforms such as peak forests, peak clusters, caves, and sinkholes, forming a typical karst landscape with magnificent natural scenery.

【Climate Conditions】Pingba has a subtropical humid monsoon climate. The climate is mild, with no severe winters or extreme summers, distinct seasons, abundant precipitation, no sandstorms throughout the year, no typhoon influence, and relatively low ultraviolet radiation intensity. The area is characterised by lush mountains and clear waters, a beautiful environment, and well-preserved natural ecosystems, making it an ideal place for human habitation. The annual average temperature ranges from 13°C to 16°C, with an annual precipitation of 1,298 millimetres. The region is crisscrossed by rivers and belongs to the Yangtze River basin.
