Cengong County is located in the eastern part of Guizhou Province, at the northeastern corner of Qiandongnan Prefecture. It administers 9 towns, 2 townships, and 1 provincial-level economic development zone, covering a total land area of 1,486.5 square kilometers. The county is home to 18 ethnic groups, including Han, Miao, Dong, Gelao, and Tujia, with a total population of 241,128. It is designated as a “National Hybrid Rice Seed Production Base County,” " Sizhou Stone Inkstone Cultural and Artistic Homeland," a national circular economy demonstration county, and a national hygienic county.

It has a long history and rich cultural heritage. Cengong was formerly known as Sizhou, with a history dating back to the Tang Dynasty. It was established as a prefecture during the Ming Dynasty. In 1913 (the second year of the Republic of China), Sizhou Prefecture was renamed Sizhou County, and in 1930 (the 19th year of the Republic of China), it was further renamed Cengong County, with a history spanning over 1,300 years. Ancient Sizhou served as a key transportation hub connecting Chu, Guizhou, and Yunnan. Political, economic, cultural, and technological advancements from Central China first spread to Guizhou through this region, making it the earliest cradle of Guizhou's political, economic, and cultural development. Historians often say, “There was Sizhou before there was Guizhou.” The county enjoys superior geographical and transportation advantages. Cengong borders Zhenyuan, Yuping, Jiangkou, Shiqian, and Wanshan counties, and is adjacent to Huaihua City in Hunan Province. The county is connected by the Zhuzhou-Liuzhou Double-Track Railway, the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway, National Highway 320, and the G60 Expressway. The county seat is 90 kilometers from Tongren Phoenix Airport, 80 kilometers from Hunan Zhi Jiang Airport, and 80 kilometers from Huangping Airport. It is 25 kilometers from the Tongren South Station of the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway and 30 kilometers from the Sansui Station. With its advantageous location and convenient transportation, it serves as the forefront of Guizhou's eastern strategic alliance.
