Duyun, abbreviated as "Yun" (the name in the Buyi language means "City of Colorful Clouds"), is located in the southern part of the Miao Mountains in Guizhou Province, with a width of 64 kilometers from east to west and a length of 63 kilometers from north to south, covering a total area of 2,285 square kilometers, with 50,000 hectares of arable land. It has jurisdiction over Wenfeng Sub-district Office, Guanghui Sub-district Office, Xiaowzaibao Sub-district Office, Shabao Fort Sub-district Office, Luyin Lake Sub-district Office, Yundong Town, Mochong Town, Pinglang Town, Maodian Town, and Gui Lan Sui Ethnic Township.

Duyun is the capital of Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, a Chinese excellent tourist city, a global green city, the hometown of the top ten famous teas in China - "Duyun Maojian", a western photography city, a Chinese livable town, a Chinese top ten air quality city, a national modern logistics demonstration city, a civilized city in Guizhou Province, and also one of the first batch of national urban-rural integration development demonstration zones, the first batch of county-level national new urbanization comprehensive pilot cities in Guizhou Province, and one of the five main central cities of the Qianzhong Economic Zone.

Duyun, originally named "Duyun", was named after the "Duyun Cave" in the east of the city. Since the Tang Dynasty, it has been established as a state, prefecture, office, and county many times. In the 23rd year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1390), it was renamed Duyun. In 1956, the Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was established, and Duyun was designated as the seat of the prefecture.

Duyun City is adjacent to Danzhai County and Sandu Shui Autonomous County in the east, bordering Dushan County and Pingtang County in the south, bordering Guizhou County in the west, and bordering Majiang County in the north. It is a transportation hub for the three provinces in the southwest to reach the southeast coast. The traffic road network is dense and convenient. The Guangzhou-Kunming High-speed Railway, the Qianxin Railway, and the Xiamen-Chongqing, Lanhai Expressways, etc., which are the golden land routes for the sea route in the south and the southwest, run through the whole territory. The National Highways 321 and 210 converge here. The Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway under construction and the Duyun-Yunnan Xianggelila Expressway connect in Duyun. The Duyun-Kaili Expressway and the Duyun-Dushan Inter urban Avenue under construction, the Wengan-Fuquan Ma'angping Railway Extension Duyun Section, and other traffic networks are being planned. Duyun Airport is proposed to be built. It is 78 kilometers from Guiyang International Airport and is gradually forming the "half-hour transportation economic circle" of Guiyang and the "four-hour transportation economic circle" of the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration.

Duyun City is beautiful with mountains and rivers and is rich in natural resources. There are 257 rivers in the city with a total length of 1321 kilometers and an average annual water resource of 16.87 billion cubic meters; the storage of mineral resources is considerable, with more than 80 kinds of ore beds, ore points, and mineralization points; the biological resources are rich, with more than 280 kinds of wild animals and 12 kinds of national protected rare plants; the tourism resources are unique, with the national scenic area of Yuan Yuan Spring Jian Jiang Dou Peng Mountain (Dou Peng Mountain scenic area, Luo Si Ke scenic area, Jian Jiang scenic area, Du Liu Jiang scenic area, Feng Zhuan He scenic area), Qing Yin Lake National Forest Park, Luo Si Ke High Mountain Organic Ecological Tea Sea, Yuan Yuan Spring Jian Jiang River, Bai Zi Qiao, Shi Ban Street, Wen Feng Garden, Nan Sha Zhou, San Jiang Yan, Sang Mu Hu, Qin Han Film and Television City, Mao Jian Feng Style Town, China Tea Culture Expo Garden, Three Line Construction Museum, etc., each with its own characteristics; there are 43 ethnic minorities, such as Buyi, Miao, Shui, Yao, and Maonan, with colorful ethnic customs; the air quality excellent rate is more than 98%, and the forest coverage rate is 65.67%.

The industrial and agricultural economy of Du Yun City is developing vigorously. There are more than 8,620 registered enterprises in the whole city, which has formed an industrial system of machinery, electronics, chemical industry, building materials, food, automobile manufacturing, biopharmaceuticals, and characteristic light industry; the agricultural industry has initially taken shape and achieved obvious results, and basically formed five pillar industries with "China's Top Ten Famous Teas" - Du Yun Maojian Tea as the leader, and developed towards the integration of the secondary and tertiary industries such as order-based agriculture, sightseeing agriculture, and income-generating agriculture.
