Fuquan City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guizhou Province, is administered by the Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Located in central Guizhou and the northern part of the Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, it sits on the left slope of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The city enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate, borders seven counties (cities), and covers a total area of 1,688 square kilometers. As of October 2024, Fuquan City governs two subdistricts, five towns, and one township, with a total population of 342,039. The city’s name originates from the Fuquan Well on Fuquan Mountain within its urban planning area. In the 33rd year of Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s reign (214 BCE), it was renamed Qieliang County. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), the directly governed county of Pingle was abolished and replaced by Pingle County. In July 1953, the county was renamed Fuquan County. In December 1996, the county was abolished and established as a city, a status that has continued to this day.
The main attractions of Fuquan City include the Ancient Town Cultural Tourism Area, the Huangshi River Riverside Resort, the Hebang River Natural Ecological Tourism Area, and the Sajin Valley. In January 2023, Fuquan City was selected as part of the "Second Batch of National Science Popularization Demonstration Counties (Cities, Districts) for 2021-2025." In October 2023, it was named among the "Third Batch of National High-Quality Safe Agricultural Products Counties." In January 2024, Fuquan City was designated as part of the "11th Batch of National Ethnic Unity and Progress Demonstration Areas."”。
In 2024, Fuquan City achieved a regional GDP of 301.0 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. Among this, the added value of the primary industry was 23.6 billion yuan, up 4% year-on-year; the secondary industry reached 162.66 billion yuan, up 13.2% year-on-year; and the tertiary industry amounted to 114.74 billion yuan, up 5.5% year-on-year, with the ratio of the three industries being 1.84:54.04:38.12. The per capita GDP was 100,382 yuan, marking an 8.9% year-on-year increase.
