Libo County is located at the southernmost tip of Guizhou Province, in the transitional zone between the Yungui Plateau and the Guangxi hills. It borders Huanjiang and Nandan counties of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the southeast. Serving as a vital transportation hub connecting Southwest China with South China and Lingnan, it also provides Guizhou's closest route southward to the sea. Covering a total area of 2,415.47 square kilometers, the county administers 1 subdistrict, 5 towns, 2 ethnic townships, 92 administrative villages, and 8 urban community residents' committees. Its total population stands at 186,987, with ethnic minorities accounting for 93.37%—primarily the Buyi, Shui, Miao, and Yao ethnic groups. Libo is the hometown of Deng Enming, a martyr and delegate to the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China. As a national 5A-level tourist attraction, it boasts two world-class brands: the “South China Karst” World Natural Heritage Site and the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve. Hailed as the “Earth's Emerald” and “The World's Most Beautiful Karst,” It has been designated as one of China's first national comprehensive tourism demonstration zones and a provincial comprehensive tourism demonstration county. Liupo has earned numerous honors, including National Sanitary County, National Civilized County, National Ecological Demonstration Zone, China's Top Ten Forests, China's Forest Oxygen Bar, China-EU Green and Smart City, International Top-Tier Tourism Destination, and China's Most Investment-Promising Tourism Destination.

Tourism resources are exceptionally abundant. Libo boasts pristine ecology and a pleasant climate, integrating mountains, forests, caves, lakes, waterfalls, rapids, and torrents. It encapsulates the essence of Guizhou's natural landscapes, with a forest coverage rate of 71.97%. Negative oxygen ion levels reach up to 180,000 per cubic centimeter, and the annual average temperature hovers around 18°C. Winters are mild, summers are cool, making it a natural oxygen bar and gene bank. The county boasts the national 5A-rated Zhangjiang Scenic Area, the 4A-rated Yaoshan Ancient Village Scenic Area, the national-level Maolan Nature Reserve, Shuichun River rafting, and nine 3A-rated scenic spots. It also features attractions like Zhaipiao, Shuipu, and Datou homestays, with a total of 57 scenic spots developed to date. Additionally, over 300 rustic villages suitable for tourism development are scattered throughout the county. Expert assessments have identified six as world-class and 25 as national-level. In recent years, Libo County has focused on its goal of “building a world-class tourism destination and becoming a new model for all-for-one tourism.” Guided by high-quality development, it has vigorously implemented the “Four Major Initiatives” to advance the industrialization of tourism. Over the past five years (2020-2024), total tourism revenue surged from 10.3 billion yuan to 23.1 billion yuan, visitor arrivals soared from 12.51 million to 27.54 million, and overnight stays increased from 1.1 million to 2.31 million. In 2024, the county welcomed 27.545 million visitors, a 2.37% year-on-year increase, with total tourism revenue reaching 23.167 billion yuan, up 2.07% year-on-year. Domestic overnight visitors numbered 1.9888 million, a 14.7% decrease year-on-year. Per capita visitor spending reached 1,246.56 yuan, exceeding the provincial average for Guizhou.

Rich in revolutionary heritage, Libo is the birthplace of Deng Enming (delegate to the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China), Meng Jiuling (military founder), Quan Zhengxi (anti-Japanese air force hero), and Yang Jialiu (anti-Japanese military commander). As part of the Left and Right Jiang Revolutionary Base Area, It houses 11 nationally recognized revolutionary sites, including Deng Enming's Former Residence, the Ban Zhai Red Seventh Army Reunion Site, and the Dawn Pass Site where Guizhou's first shot against Japanese aggression was fired. These sites serve as bases for experiencing red culture and patriotic education.

Rich and Authentic Ethnic Flavors. Libo is a county with a high concentration of ethnic minorities, featuring vibrant ethnic festivals and authentic cultural traditions. It boasts two provincial-level ethnic preservation villages: Shuiping Shuihe and Dongmeng of the Yao Mountain. The “Shui Script” and “Buyi Script” are listed in the National Register of Precious Ancient Books, while the “Yao Mon key Drum Dance” and “Buyi Nuo Opera” are included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The region features the lively and humorous Buyi wedding song “Langwai,” the grand and extraordinary Shui ethnic group's “Maopo” singing contest, the free and simple Miao ethnic group's courtship customs, and the ancient and mysterious Yao ethnic group's “wall-punching marriage proposal” and “belt-stealing” customs, all of which are fascinating and truly remarkable.

Transportation infrastructure is smooth and convenient. Lipu has preliminarily established a comprehensive, multi-dimensional transportation network featuring “airport coverage, expressway networks, roads reaching every village group, and high-speed rail transit.” The county boasts a total road mileage of 1,922 kilometers, including 51 kilometers of expressways (with the Libo-Hechi Expressway under construction), 83 kilometers of national highways, 252 kilometers of provincial highways, 310 kilometers of county roads, 280 kilometers of township roads, 478 kilometers of village roads, and 469 kilometers of roads connecting every village group. This ensures 100% passenger transport coverage for all administrative villages and 100% paved road access for all residential groups with 30 or more households. In December 2023, the expanded Libo Airport commenced operations, accommodating major domestic aircraft models. By 2024, six new routes were launched: Xingyi-Libo, Tongren-Libo, Xi'an-Maotai-Libo, Xi'an-Anshun-Libo, Xingyi-Libo-Wuhan, and Ningbo-Tongren-Libo. This establishes a comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network integrating rail, road, and air services, positioning Libo as Guizhou's southern gateway and bridgehead connecting to the Beibu Gulf and ASEAN.

Rapid Economic and Social Development. In recent years, Lipu has accelerated its economic and social progress, witnessing significant improvements in infrastructure, optimized development environments, transformed urban and rural landscapes, and tangible benefits for its residents. Key economic indicators maintained robust growth: the 2024 GDP reached 8.251 billion yuan, with general public budget revenue at 588 million yuan. Fixed-asset investment exceeding 5 million yuan surged by 10.6% year-on-year (including cross-regional projects). Total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 2.16% year-on-year, while industrial added value from enterprises above designated size (over 20 million yuan) surged by 26.2%. Financial institutions held deposits and loans totaling 11.022 billion yuan and 13.987 billion yuan respectively. Per capita disposable income for urban and rural residents reached 43,053 yuan and 16,763 yuan, growing by 4.9% and 7.0% respectively. In March 2020, Lipu County was officially removed from the national list of impoverished counties.
