It is one of the few county-level administrative regions in the province with four railway stations (including two high-speed rail stations).
Guiding County boasts a beautiful ecological environment. Situated in the ancient lands of Qielan and Zangke Commandery, it witnessed the Red Army's Long March pass through twice. Its unique geographical position at 26° north latitude endows it with exceptional resources. The county averages an elevation of 1,200 meters and an annual temperature of 14.9°C, with 144 rivers and streams and a forest coverage rate of 65.78%. It boasts attractions such as Ganxi National Forest Park, Bailong River National Wetland Park, the scenic “Golden Sea and Snowy Mountains,” Yangbaoshan Mountain, and Yunwu Tea Tourism and Leisure Sightseeing. Guiding County has been honored as “China's Best Leisure Tourism County,” “China's Best Ecological and Cultural Tourism Destination,” “National Forest Tourism Demonstration County,” “National Demonstration County for Leisure Agriculture and Rural Tourism,” “National Key County for Leisure Agriculture,” “National Agricultural Modernization Demonstration Zone,” and home to the “China Guiding Yunwu Mountain Tea Park.”
Guiding County boasts a rich tapestry of ethnic cultures. It is home to the Miao Long Dance, a national intangible cultural heritage known as the “Eastern Tango,” and the Miao Long Drum Dance, hailed as a “living fossil of the Miao mountains.” Ethnic festivals like the Miao Sitting Flower Market and the Buyi June Sixth Song Festival are rich in tradition and vibrant in character. Guiding is the birthplace of the nationally renowned song “Osmanthus Blossoms, Happiness Comes.” Ethnic handicrafts, including Miao textiles, ethnic embroidery, and rice straw crafts, are diverse and distinctive. On May 9, 2011, during an inspection tour at Ganxi Forest Farm in Guiding County, Comrade Xi Jinping delivered the important directive: “We must pursue both gold mountains and silver mountains, as well as green waters and green mountains. Moreover, we must achieve a higher level of understanding where green waters and green mountains are themselves gold mountains and silver mountains.” As one of the birthplaces of the ecological civilization concept—a vital component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era—the people of Guiding take immense pride and honor in this legacy.
