Huishui boasts a long history and a prime location. Its name derives from the convergence of the Lianjiang and Mengjiang rivers, whose waters flow through the entire region, benefiting its people. During the Tang Dynasty's Zhenguan era (4th year, 620 AD), it belonged to Qinglan County. In the Five Dynasties period, Nanning Prefecture was established. The Yuan Dynasty set up a Provincial Administration Office. In the 10th year of the Chenghua era (1474 AD) of the Ming Dynasty, Chengfan Prefecture was founded. In the 2nd year of the Longqing era (1568 AD), the seat of Chengfan Prefecture was relocated to present-day Guiyang, renamed Guiyang Prefecture the following year. In 1914, Dadian County was established, renamed Huishui County in 1941. Historically, it is said that “Chengfan Prefecture came first, followed by Guiyang Prefecture.” Situated in the heart of central Guizhou, Huishui serves as the core urban area of Guiyang within the planned Guizhou Central Economic Zone. It is a vital component of the “Strong Provincial Capital” strategy and the Guiyang-Gui'an-Anshun-Qiannan Economic Zone. Bordering Guiyang to the north and adjoining the national-level Gui'an New Area to the west, it lies just 30 kilometers from Guiyang. Huishui functions as a key land transportation hub in Guizhou and is celebrated as an ecologically livable township with picturesque landscapes and pastoral charm. Covering a total area of 2,470 square kilometers, the county administers 8 towns and 3 subdistricts. In 2024, its total population reached 480,715, with ethnic minorities accounting for 65.12%. Huishui County is celebrated as the “Hometown of the Beautiful Red Flower.”
Hui Shui is blessed with abundant natural resources and stunning ecological beauty. Since ancient times, it has been praised as “mountains towering and waters clear, the most picturesque in Guizhou.” It boasts the “largest dam on the Guizhou Plateau”—the 100,000-mu Lianjiang Dam—with a forest coverage rate of 62%. The Buyi folk song “Haohua Hong Tune” and the Fengxiang dyeing technique are listed as national intangible cultural heritage. Huishui has been honored with titles including China's Top 100 Fresh Air Towns, China's Happiest County-Level City, China's Top 100 Summer Resort Counties, China's Ecologically Charming County, and China's Most Beautiful Leisure Village. It stands as a premier destination for leisure vacations, wellness tourism, retirement living, and investment property—a place ideal for residence, travel, and business.
Huishui: Four Modernizations Converge, Industries Flourish. The Guizhou Huishui Provincial Economic Development Zone clusters industries including high-end equipment manufacturing, new building materials, specialty light industry, and eco-friendly specialty foods. Leading enterprises like Jintian New Materials, AVIC Yonghong, and Weichunyuan thrive. The Baoniaohe Digital Town hosts over 90 big data enterprises including Baidu, Mengdong Technology, and Jialihua, forming a new model of coordinated development across big data, healthcare, and education. Its big data sector has consistently ranked first in the prefecture and among the top in the province for main business revenue. The 50,000-mu (333 hectares) luffa cultivation base has been designated as an “Extended Vegetable Production Base for Shanghai.” Products like prickly lime juice, bayberry juice, luffa noodles, and beef jerky enjoy renown both within and beyond the province. The area is nationally celebrated as the homeland of small yellow ginger, black glutinous rice, and golden mandarin oranges. The county boasts the AAAA-rated national tourist attractions of Haohua Hong Rural Tourism, Guluyunling, and Lianjiang Water Conservancy Park. Natural and cultural landmarks like Lianjiang Swallow Cave, Yemeiling Forest Park, Binlang Lake, and Jiulong Zen Temple captivate visitors with their marvels, leaving them reluctant to depart. In 2024, the county's GDP reached 16.631 billion yuan; industrial output value from enterprises above designated size amounted to 1.244 billion yuan; fixed-asset investment grew by 0.1% year-on-year (excluding cross-regional projects); total retail sales of consumer goods reached 5.356 billion yuan; total fiscal revenue amounted to 1.265 billion yuan, with public fiscal budget revenue at 743 million yuan; per capita disposable income for urban and rural residents increased by 4.2% and 7.3% respectively, reaching 43,301 yuan and 17,789 yuan.
Standing at a new starting point, we strive for new glory. Huishui will thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important directives on Guizhou's work, wholeheartedly uphold the “Two Establishments,” and faithfully practice the “Two Safeguards.” Grounded in the new development stage, we will implement the new development philosophy, integrate into the new development paradigm, adhere to the general principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, and prioritize high-quality development as the overarching goal. Centering on the Provincial Party Committee's ‘1234’ work approach and the Prefectural Party Committee's “Six Major Leading Projects,” and anchored in the “Strengthening the Provincial Capital” development strategy, We will champion the new-era Huishui spirit of “firm confidence, courageous responsibility, tenacious struggle, and vigorous pursuit of excellence.” Focusing on the “Four New Initiatives” and prioritizing the “Four Modernizations,” we will build confidence, seize opportunities, address shortcomings, and strive for leadership. We will accelerate the development of a prosperous, beautiful, livable, culturally rich, digitally advanced, and safe Huishui, striving to compose a new chapter in Huishui's modernization journey within the vibrant Guizhou.
