Xigu District is a municipal district of Lanzhou City, located in the southwest of Lanzhou. It serves as a core industrial zone of both Gansu Province and Lanzhou City, and is the largest petrochemical base in western China.
- It borders Qilihe District to the east, Yongjing County to the south, Honggu District to the west, and Yongdeng County and Anning District to the north.
- The Yellow River runs through the entire district from west to east, covering a total area of 385.3 square kilometers.
- As of 2024, Xigu District administers 5 towns, 1 township, and 7 sub-districts, with a permanent population of 407,000.
- With a long history, Xigu District was incorporated into the territory of the Qin State during the reign of King Zhaoxiang of Qin, belonging to Longxi Commandery.
- In the second year of Yuanshou in the Western Han Dynasty (121 BC), the general Li Xi built "Jincheng" (Golden City) here.
- The Western Han Emperor Zhao established Jincheng County, which was under the jurisdiction of Jincheng Commandery.
- In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Gaolan County and was renamed Xigu City.
- In November 1955, the district government seat "Xigu City" was renamed Xigu District of Lanzhou City.
- In 2024, the district achieved a regional GDP of 50.08 billion yuan, with industrial output value accounting for one-tenth of Gansu Province and one-third of Lanzhou City.
- It is the largest petrochemical base in western China, with 64 designated-size industrial enterprises.
- It has formed an industrial system supported by four major sectors: petrochemicals, new energy, new materials, and equipment manufacturing.
- The development of Lanzhou International Inland Port has endowed Xigu District with enormous potential in commercial and logistics industries.
- Xigu District was an important city on the ancient Silk Road, witnessing the journey of Princess Wencheng to Tibet and Monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage to the Western Regions.
- During the "First Five-Year Plan" period, 5 out of the 156 key national projects were located in Xigu, creating many firsts in China's history.
- CNNC Lanzhou Uranium Co., Ltd. is also situated here, making important contributions to China's nuclear industry development.
- It boasts the best basic education resources in Gansu Province, including 70 kindergartens, 37 primary schools, and 24 middle schools, with 9 provincial and municipal model high schools concentrated here.
- Lanzhou Petrochemical General Hospital has been upgraded to a Grade A tertiary hospital, and various medical and health institutions cover urban and rural areas.
- It is home to stunning natural landscapes such as Jincheng Park, Guanshan Forest Park, and Sanjiangkou Wetland.
- Hekou Ancient Town has been named a "Chinese Traditional Village" and a "Beautiful Leisure Village in China".
