Meitan County belongs to Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, located at latitude 27°20′18″-28°12′30″N, longitude 107°15′36″-107°41′08″E, bordering Fenggang County and Yuqing County of Zunyi City in the east, Bozhou District and Suiyang County of Zunyi City in the west, Weng'an County of the Guizhou Southern Bouyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the south. In the north, it borders with Zunyi Zheng'an County and Fenggang County. The county is narrow and long in the north and south, with the longest distance of 96.50 kilometres and the widest distance of 25.50 kilometres in the east and west. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the five counties under the Qianzhou Prefecture were the disputes between Chu and Shu, and Yizhou Prefecture and the five counties under the Yizumi Prefecture implemented the autonomy of the local officials. In the third year of Taiping Xingguo of Northern Song Dynasty (978), Yizhou was subordinated to the court because of the tie-up of the local officials, and the court made it ‘tie-up Yizhou’. In the second year of Daguan(1108), Yizhou was abolished, and in the next year, Chengzhou was set up with five counties, including Yiquan. In the 1659th year of the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, Meitan County was returned to the Qing Court and remained under the Binh Duong Military and Civil Affairs Bureau. In the twentieth year of the Kangxi period (1681), Meitan was subordinate to the Pingyue Military and Civilian Prefecture of Guizhou Province, which was under the supervision of the Guidong Road. In the following year, the province was abolished. In the twenty-sixth year (1687), it was renamed Pingyue Prefecture. In the third year of Jiaqing (1798), it was changed to Pingyue Prefecture, and until the end of the Qing Dynasty, Meitan County was one of its subordinate counties. However, from the first to the seventh year of Tongzhi (1862-1868), Meitan was temporarily attached to Zunyi Prefecture for the purpose of suppressing the army. In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), after the abolition of the prefectural and state establishments, Meitan County belonged to Guizhou Qianzhong Road. In 1920, after the abolition of the province, Meitan County was directly under the province. In 1935, Meitan County belonged to the Sixth Administrative Inspectorate District of Guizhou Province, and in the following year, it belonged to the Fifth Administrative Inspectorate District.

In 1949, belongs to zunyi area, in December 1958, fenggang county, yuqing county and into, in August 1961, fenggang county, yuqing county will be separated out so far. Today, it belongs to Zunyi City.
